I have a friend named Rich.  He and his wife Heidi have been our kids’ theatre coaches for the past 10 years or so.  Rich and Heidi are probably the most joyful, bubbly, and genuinely nicest people we know.  We are blessed to call them true friends.

Rich is winding up his run as one of the Directors of the State Theatre.  His shows with Singing On Stage and FUSE have captivated audiences and drawn rave reviews from the critics.  Rich also played a big role in helping Calvary Midtown relocate to the State.  His guidance and leadership have served the State Theatre, local theater in general, and our community as a whole.

It wasn’t Rich’s desire to leave the State; that decision was reached by the board of directors.  And while I’m certain that this hurts, I haven’t heard on word of negativity from Rich.  To be honest, that wouldn’t be like him, anyway.  He is always positive, upbeat, and optimistic.  We love the State, and look forward to continuing our relationship with the leadership there.  I have a growing friendship and respect for Greg Ray and the staff there. But I’d be lying if I said that this change didn’t make me sad.

My friend Dannah declared: “He made that place better.”

Isn’t that the goal?  My folks always told me, “No matter what we do, we ought to leave things better than we found them.”

I don’t know what lies in store for Rich and Heidi.  I suppose it’s true that all good things come to an end.  But good people will continue to leave their fingerprints all over our lives, and that’s the kind of thing that shapes and influences destinies.  Bravo, Rich, and thank you for the way you have shaped me and my family.  Team Sublett loves you!
