I always figured Kim or I might land some speaking deals based on our adoption journey. God has taught us a lot, and we love to talk. But the first member of Team Sublett to actually score a speaking gig is our very own Josie!
She got to tell a little of her story to Calvary’s Heart-to-Heart group Monday night. She has absolutely blossomed over the past few years. Part of her growth lies in the security she feels from being part of our family. She experienced some bullying this year in one of her classes. To be honest, Josie was pretty oblivious to the whole thing. She just figured that the girls didn’t like Chinese people. Lilly was fired up and ready to defend her sister.
We managed to avoid the fisticuffs, and Josie taught us a lesson in the process. She let the words roll off her like water off a duck’s back (true thing, have you ever seen it? it’s remarkable). She knows that she is loved, feels secure in her family, and realizes that other people’s opinions don’t really touch her. Bullies lose their tactical advantage when people are secure, connected, loved…
seems like a lesson we could stand to hear again…

Please tell Josie that at Heart-to-Heart on Wednesday Sherilyn retold her story… but barely. The story is such a powerful illustration that Sherilyn was choking back tears, as were most of us listening. Josie really is an inspiration! So today I’m praying that God makes me as secure as Josie, as resilient and as overjoyed to belong to my heavenly Father. And, oh, the picture of you two dancing and hearing that she knows she is loved because you tell her, you spend time with her and you “get her”. Indeed! So well done, Subletts!
