Our newest son is turning out to be a baseball fan.  That’s pretty good, because there are a few of us in the family.  Levi knows more about the stats of current players and rosters of more teams than I do these days.  The girls all love going to the Spikes’ (Pirates’ minor league team in State College) games, but I think that has more to do with dippin’ dots than the love of the game (they are the ice cream of the future, after all).  Kim’s still a big fan of the ’79 Pirates–she loved Omar Moreno, Teke, and Willie.  Charlie’s pretty non-committal  at this point, but Isaac is loving and learning the game.

He stayed up late last night to watch the National League allstars demolish the American Leaguers.  He’s not real good with names, but he can tell you that #52 pitches really good, throws really fast.  He knows the basics of the game, like balls and strikes, outs and innings.  I think I got him squared away on the fact that you score runs in baseball, not points.  My dad the umpire will be glad to know that Rocco (another umpire) showed him how to signal “strike three, you’re out” with professional flair!  He can tell me how the Pirates did over the last couple of days because he’s watched them play.  Every once in a while I’ll hear him repeat a name or phrase that the announcers use, and I’ll know that he’s storing those sounds away.

He loves to play wiffle ball in the back yard.  He’s pretty athletic, and you’d better not cheat in when he’s at bat or he’ll make you pay!  He’s learning when to take it easy and that you can’t pelt your sisters (or your mom) with the ball just to get them out.  Well, you can, but you shouldn’t!  It’s pretty hilarious to hear him yell, “3 outs, change sides!” I think he learned that from playing Wii baseball.

It’s hard to believe that he’s only been with us since the end of October.  He’s a great addition to our family.  He totally fits in with us, and we love him!

When WILL the future get there though? Dippin’ Dots have been the ice cream of the future for at least 15 years now…
