Yep, it’s true.  I can’t take it any more.  I’ve had enough, and I’m taking action to change my situation.  Please, allow me to clarify:
I’m not leaving because:

  • the Ravens won the SuperBowl
  • the snow falls in central PA while my southern boys practice baseball
  • of the gun-control debate
  • I’m looking for a lower tax bracket

I’m leaving because I have unfinished business, a heart condition, and a love bug.  And it looks like this:

Calvary’s been going to the Dominican Republic for about 15 years.  I’ve been on lots of those trips.  God used that experience to prepare and soften my heart for adoption, for the fatherless.  Every time I go I learn something new about myself, and about the Father-heart of God.

I wasn’t planning to go this year, as my plate is pretty full at home.  But there was a cancellation on the team.  I gave that spot to a PSU student who wanted to go.  Then there was another cancellation.  OK, I get the hint.

So I’m going.  I’m behind the curve in terms of my fundraising, but I’m not worried.  I’ve seen God do some incredible things in the realm of finances.  Have I ever told you the story of how we adopted 2 boys in the span of 5 months, how God helped us raise an unthinkable amount of money in an unthinkable span of time?

So in a month I’ll be teaching boys to play guitar, painting and fixing and hauling and working, laughing and chasing and playing and singing, loving and learning and crying and being…with the boys and girls who got me to think seriously about adoption.  They showed me that I could truly love children who share no DNA with me.

As I go, I remind myself of the fact that there are still millions of children in the world without families.  I feed my holy discontent and ask God what he might be stirring up in me, what he might be leading us to do, and how I can be part of a solution.

Will you pray for me as I go?  March 3-9…I can hardly wait!
