I know that I’ve blogged about this before, but goodness gracious, we had a night of worship at the North Building tonight!

Tonight marked the start of the spring concert series for our school district.  Levi is in 2 pretty prestigious choirs, Master Singers and Chamber Singers.  They are just two of the incredible groups that State High’s music educators have developed.  These choirs were in Toronto with several other bands/choirs from State High last weekend for an international competition.  They won almost every award possible.  Not kidding.  They had to rent a trailer to pull behind the bus for all the trophies.  OK, kidding about that.  But they did win something like 20 awards, every one given to a band, ensemble, choir/choral group.  Our music department is loaded.

And tonight was a prime example of that talent and directional goodness.  Mr. Robert Drafall is a dry/witty emcee, and works wonders with the students.  The students sang with emotion, connecting to the composer’s intent and the depth of each piece.  Levi is always able to tell me where the goofups happened, but as I sat there drinking in the beauty, the “oops” were lost on me.  There was too much goodness to notice any goofs.

And the bonus is that a good portion of their program tonight was music written for the church, for the glory of God.  Works by Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, and Brahms.  Pieces composed to help people connect with the living God, to encounter the Divine, music written with the intent of WORSHIP.

So I did. RIght there in the auditorium of the high school, surrounded by family and friends out for an evening of high school choir, I closed my eyes, focused my heart, and praised the God of Whom they sang.

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.  Psalm 34:1

Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, and Brahms – those are some of the masters right there (Bach especially)! Great stuff – sorry to have missed the concert.

And I have no idea why the picture that’s showing up with my comment is of a woman… (Or maybe that’s just for me on this computer – either way, Amy’s getting a kick out of it.)
