Hot on the heels of Calvary on Campus–our all-Calvary worship event at PSU’s Eisenhower Auditorium–I found myself in a room with a cluster of college students tonight. Steve Lutz is the director of Calvary’s college ministry Elements, and he asked me to speak/teach from Genesis 3.  The group is working through Genesis this semester, taking things slowly, allowing themselves to go deeper in their study of God’s word.

I was a youth pastor for 20 years.  Most weeks I was preparing/delivering at least one talk to students.  But a few years ago my role changed and I became the pastor for midtown,  one of Calvary’s worship gatherings.  I don’t have nearly as many teaching opportunities as I used to, so I had to spend a little extra time knocking off the rust for tonight!

I also got to talk about how my high school mascot got me in hot water at the Bible college I attended.

Folks seemed to be engaged, and there was lots of good discussion taking place after I spoke.  Of course, good small group facilitators can lead wonderful discussions no matter what’s presented by the speaker…

Yesterday I got to help lead 1000+ people in worship.  Tonight I got to go deep with a small group of students & leaders in God’s word.

My job is pretty great.
