“OK bud, it’s time. Are you ready for this?” He nodded, the tension scrawling an obvious, “I’m not too sure” across his face. I gave him some last-minute instructions about steering, shifting, and pedals as he slipped behind the wheel. Then he was off. My heart swelled with pride while my heart beat pounded with anticipation. The engine roared to life and the wheels began to turn. Levi, my first-born, was actually doing it!
Cutting the grass!
Yep, I figured that if he’s old enough to have his permit, we might as well get him some experience behind the wheel of a vehicle that I feel comfortable with him piloting. And since darkness was closing in on Casa de Sublett, I needed the help. We cut our neighbor’s grass every time we cut ours, which usually takes me about 3 hours. So while I ran around with the string trimmer, Levi cut a swath through our yard.
We finished in the dark, with me wearing a headlamp. See, it’s not just for caving!
Levi did a great job. I was very pleased, and I think he felt a sense of accomplishment, too. I would have taken pictures, but we were in a race against nightfall. Maybe next week!
