I love my daughter’s attitude.  Josie is a never-say-die, face-it-with-a-smile, too-early-to-quit kind of young lady.  No matter what the game is, she’s in it til it’s over.  Settlers of Catan, Disney Dance Party 3, hide & seek in the dark & snowy backyard, knockout with kids at the YMCA…the game and venue don’t matter.  She’s not overly competitive, and I don’t know if she has one ounce of killer instinct in her.  But she’s always up for a game.

She’s been going to the YMCA for about a month now, hitting the treadmill, bike, and rowing machine.  She announced that she’d like to join the State College High rugby team this semester.  I almost choked on my supper!  She’s not the most physical member of Team Sublett.

But then again, maybe this will be right up her alley.  As we were coming home from the Y tonight I asked her if she likes to hit people.  I’m not sure she really understands what rugby is all about.  We may have to consult some of our PSU Women Rugby peeps (what’s that?  National Champs?  Oh, yeah, We Are…)

Her story in a nutshell: she was abandoned by her birth parents, taken to an orphanage,  sent to live with a family in Shanghai, sent back to the orphanage as a pre-teen, adopted at 13 by a family who brought her to America but decided after 3 months to interrupt the adoption…yeah, I wrote that with a bit of snark…She’s found a home and a family with us, and we couldn’t be more blessed.  She’s a beautiful, caring, sensitive, loving, part of our family.

And if she wants to throw down and scrum, so be it!

always proudof my girl, Josie – her joyful and thankful heart is contagious whenever I see her or hear her precious voice. We ALL need a Josie in our lives! As for Rugby – I would hate the thought of her ever getting hurt – but, she can take it. She has rolled with life’s punches in a way that is amazing and unique. I have no doubt that she will win this battle as well!!! Keep us posted! I am already praying for her to make the team!
