I’m pretty sure she found them at walmart.

Kim bought a small pack of glow-in-the-dark stars (plus one crescent moon) for Charlie’s room.  The boy loves the moon and stars.  One of the first words that he could pronounce–he doesn’t have many at this point–is MOON.  There have been nights when he simply refused to be content unless I took him outside to see the moon.

Tonight as we got him ready for bed I emptied a milk crate of its trucks so that I could reach the ceiling.  We’d let the stars and moon charge under the light in our room.  Kim and Sadie placed double-sided tape on the backs of the pieces, handing them to me one at a time so that I could hang the stars in Charlie’s night sky.

I don’t think he knew exactly what we were doing, but when we killed the light and the stars shone bright above his crib there was no mistaking his joy.  Levi poked his head in to see what the fuss was all about and Charlie pointed to the display saying, “Me moon!  Me moon!”

Kim looked in on him shortly after I’d tucked him into bed.  He was still awake, still star-gazing.  Kim noticed that the effect of the stars was minimized by the night light, so she flipped the switch and asked if he wanted her to leave the light off.  For the first time ever, Charlie’s sleeping without a night-light, slumbering under the stars.

I hope that’s a sign of things to come–that we can spend some nights under the real stars…
