Tonight was our first XStream (middle school ministry) night of the year, and we hit the ground running. We’re still trying to get our legs under us, but it was a good night right out of the gate. A week ago we had 1 volunteer for middle school, and I hadn’t met her! Tonight there were 13 potential leaders there, and a couple of moms stuck around to see if they could be helpful (and they were!)
We had some great snacks and games (thank you Heather–her blog is a can’t miss everyday!) and worship (Artur is in his element!) and some super photography (Amy, thanks!) and leaders stepping in to make sure things are organized, students are welcomed, parents are greeted, and things are cleaned up and put away. And to top it all off, I got to talk about our hope that this room full of bright, young, enthusiastic, cheerful, wonderful people will decide that living for Jesus is the best way of life ever.
So what didn’t come off like I expected? Well, nothing really. We had some technical glitches, and I’d love to have our team in place with the small group materials in their hands a week prior to the meeting. But we’re making progress, and we’ll get there.
We’ve barely scratched the surface, and a lot of details have to be worked out, but I am brimming with hope and excitement for this team, these students, and our community.
