It’s that time of year again.  The turning of the calendar leads us to stop, take stock of our lives, and make some mid-course changes/corrections.  I think that’s a good thing.  I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions, but I do appreciate the reminder that I need to examine my life to make sure that it’s heading the direction that I believe it’s supposed to.

This New Year we’ve had the pleasure of walking through some changes/resolutions with the childrens.  We’re taking a look at where we are in terms of the physical, emotional, and spiritual.  I’d love to see us take some strides in each of the categories, to make some changes that lead us to a more healthy us…

That’s really what I’d love to see for our family–a more healthy Team Sublett.  Some of the things that we’re doing are really clicking; other things aren’t really hitting the mark.  But I don’t think that we’re so far off that we can’t make some adjustments to move us in the right direction.

And while I don’t really do the “resolution-thing,” I did buy a new Moleskine journal today.  That’s one of the disciplines that I imagine I’ll be doing til the day I die.  I read some Scripture, write down what I see, what I believe the Lord is showing me, then I spend some time writing out my prayers.

It’s slow and laborious.  When I started it was more than a little awkward–Have you ever tried to write as you think/pray?  My mind works so much faster than my hand/pen.  But that’s part of the beauty.  The process is slow.  I have to connect with the words of praise, the confession of sin, the things that I am asking of God, the thanks I want to offer…I value the time that I spend each day with my grandfather’s fountain pen, a few blank pages, and Jesus.

That’s not a new thing, but I believe that God is using that process to make me new.  And that’s a good thing…
