Wowsers, what a whirlwind. I had a blast, but it was pretty much non-stop for a while.
2 weddings (+ 2 rehearsals)
2 Calvary gatherings meeting together for
2 worship/teaching times that
2 guys (Vic and I) preached together
plus 2 Fiddler rehearsals (I bailed on 1 because of a wedding!)
I like to stay active. I don’t even mind being busy. But this weekend was a bit over the top. The weddings were beautiful. Sarah married David; Rachel married Stephen. I got the names right in both weddings, and there was much rejoicing. I passed on the first reception to make it to the rehearsal for wedding #2. I passed on the reception for wedding #2 to make it to Fiddler rehearsal.
The church services were a little more complicated. Vic and team-preached; he set things up well and I finished. If you’re interested in hearing how it went, the audio should be here at some point in the near future. I thought it went well, though I liked the way things came together with my portion of the morning better at 11. The Calvary-Gray’s Woods folks couldn’t meet at the school last week, so they joined us. We had a 9am and and 11am worship gathering at the State Theatre, which meant an early morning load in–6:30!
By the time we got things packed up and put away, the good folks from Fiddler were starting to show up–we had a walk-through at the State Theatre at 1:30. I, on the other hand, had a wedding! So I found my shoes (they’re optional at midtown!) and my suit, made my way over to the farm, and prayed for the rain to stay away. The wedding was beautiful, and I had time to get back to Fiddler rehearsal for the evening run through.
Things are shaping up for Fiddler. We’re getting past the memorizing of lines and blocking and into the “feel” of the show. The dancing (read that Stacy’s dancing!) still needs a lot of work. Are you allowed to pray that the pastor becomes a better dancer? If you are, please do! I’m loving this show, making some great new friends, and absolutely thrilled to be part of the cast.
Have you seen Fiddler? I hadn’t until we got into the cast. Now I sit off to the side every night, marveling as my talented friends bring these characters to life (L’Chaim!) It’s a story worth seeing, I promise. Every night I find myself laughing out loud, choking back tears, and getting goose bumps. And sweating a lot. But my guess is that if you’re just in the audience you won’t get too sweaty. That’s mostly those of us who are dancing under the lights (that’s your cue for prayer, btw.) Hope to see you there. Do you have your tickets yet?
