Kim and I hit the middle school for yet another winter concert. Annabelle and Sadie were in the world’s biggest middle school orchestra tonight, and there had to be 60 voices in the 8th grade choir. The music department at Mount Nittany Middle School once again showed their prowess. The song selection was splendid, and the talent level of these crazy kiddos was impressive as always. I’m pretty sure that I was trying to avoid tripping over my own feet when I was in 8th grade…
Yes, I know that’s a terrible picture of the orchestra. I tried to catch Annabelle and Sadie with their violin and cello, but they were too quick. Cookies and punch are powerful motivators.
We are so thankful for the musical mentors that God has dropped into our kids’ lives. So many wonderful, talented, loving, caring people are helping shape the way our children see and interact with the world. They’ve been given opportunities to try new and challenging things in environments and with people who have made them feel safe, secure, and confident. When we walk the halls of the schools following an event like tonight or hang out in the theatre after a show we get to rub shoulders with some of the best people on the planet.
We’re grateful, and we realize that we have many years of orchestra, choir, thespians, Singing Onstage, and local theater ahead of us…and I think we like that! Check out Charlie tinkling the ivories (not tinkling ON the ivories!) and playing the Baby Taylor that Steven Curtis Chapman signed…he’s into it!
Oh yeah, cold feet. Our garage-turned-bedroom is pretty cold these days. Kim has been shivering and putting her ice-cube-feet on me to try to stem the cold. I got out of bed a few minutes ago, dropped some uncooked rice into a sock, tied it shut and plopped it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Bam! Kim’s got a re-usable bedwarmer, and I don’t have cold feet on me. Winner winner chicken dinner.
