I swear I blinked and they were all grown up…

Levi is in the final stages of his high school musical run.  Not the HSM, though that’d be cool, too.  He’s in a couple of fantabulous choirs at State High, and if you’ve never heard the Master Singers or Chamber Singers (seriously, click the links to hear what you’re missing), you really need to add that to your list.  We are constantly amazed at the high quality performances our schools turn out.  That’s a credit to the amazing directors and teachers who are shaping the lives of our children, and we are absolutely grateful for their influence in our kids’ lives.

The music they perform is highly challenging, and a good portion of their work comes from Scripture.  So many great composers draw inspiration and lyrics from the Bible.  For me, being at one of these concerts is a lot like a worship experience; I know the Lord they sing of, and my heart rejoices in their song.

It’s been a great experience for Levi, and we have loved watching/hearing him grow as a musician under the care of Mr. Drafall and the other wonderful conductors who have worked with the students.  These last few weeks of performances will be bittersweet.

But tonight we got a glimpse into the future of music at State High.  The Melodic Minors, a 7th-8th grade acapella group under the direction of Ms. Paschen, took the stage to share two songs.  Although these students are in middle school, they looked and sounded like they belonged on that stage right alongside the high school students!  They were simply amazing.  The future of choral music at State High is solid!

I know that every parent in every town thinks their school’s team/band/drama/music is the best.  I’d put our kids up against any other program in the nation, and I’m certain that we’d hold our own!
