I love to sing.  All the time, anywhere, about anything and everything.  I walk around the house making up silly songs about the kids or Kim or the dog…Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes they don’t.  They might sound like a show tune or a country song, depending on the mood I’m in.

I’ve always tucked the kids into bed with a song, and it was usually the same song(s) each night.  It sort of became a bedtime ritual.  I’ve been doing the same thing with Charlie, usually singing Jesus Loves Me.  Charlie refers to it as the “Bible now” song.  I guess it’s because it ends with “the Bible tells me so.”  He tries to sing along each night.  Up to this point most of his words are unintelligible, but the vowel sounds are close.  As I was getting him ready for bed tonight I started singing You Are My Sunshine (Lilly’s bedtime song!) and Charlie could finish each phrase of the song!  I was so impressed that I carried him upstairs so he could sing it for Kim and the kids.

I tucked him in and thought about recording him singing some night.  It’d be fun to have this stage of life and song captured for posterity.  As I turned on the monitor in our room I caught the following, which I had to record. The audio is a little scratchy, but I think you can make it out…

Good night, Charlie.
Good night, Charlie,
It’s time to go to sleep.

I love being a dad. It’s the best role on the planet.
