Isaac’s been front and center on the old blog lately. We celebrated his birthday today. Of course, with it being a school night and the night our middle school ministry (XStream) meets, we faced a few obstacles to really throwing down the party. We did go out for Chinese food (Big Bowl, ftw) Sunday after church, and we’ll probably sit down around the table one night soon to talk about the things that we appreciate about him as a family. We took cake for XStream and dropped some giftage on the boy, so it wasn’t a total loss.
2 years ago we were told that Isaac was 13, turning 14 and thus aging out of the Chinese orphanage. That’s what made us bust our booties to get over there to bring him home with us. Our “tour guide” told us to expect him to be tall, since he’s from Inner Mongolia (more protein = taller men). Not a chance. He was so little, we immediately questioned his age. We even had his case worker do a double check to make sure that we had as much info as possible. They assured us that he was indeed turning 14.
But now we’re 2 years into life with Big I, and we’re fairly sure that he’s just now turning 14. That’s what we celebrated today, anyway. He’s been examined by dentists and doctors who agree.
But who knows, and honestly, it doesn’t make that much difference. The big thing for us is that he’s home, here with us, where he belongs. He’s such a wonderful young man. We love his smile, his joy to be part of our family. I wrote about it last week, but he’s such a great fit with us. I cannot imagine life with out him.
We are a family most blessed! The first 2 pics are from previous birthdays. He’s changed a little!
