What a good night! Tonight was our kickoff for middle school ministry, which we’ve called XStream for the past 15 years. To be honest, I was a little nervous going in to the meeting.
We were supposed to meet outside, with bonfire and s’mores and kickball and nature and stuff. The weather didn’t cooperate, however, so we moved indoors. Kickball became 9Square, s’mores morphed into fruit and chips/salsa, and we still had a good time!
There were lots of new faces–I’ve been out of the picture for the better part of 4 years now. I was encouraged to meet so many new families, and by the parents who came up to talk about how they could be involved in the ministry. I overheard several parents chatting about the families they can invite from their neighborhood, ball team, club, etc.
But the thing that stood out the most was the students themselves. Bright eyed, eager, ready to jump in and be part of something bigger than themselves…I am looking forward to getting to know them all, talking about the purposes of the church, helping them come to know and love and follow Jesus.
If you’re praying for us, one of our top priorities is the TEAM of people God’s going to bring us to work with students. We’re looking for people who love Jesus and love teenagers. We’ll train them to do the work of the ministry–that’s a big part of my role! They’ll be part of a team that shapes the hearts of the next generation. If you know someone who might be interested, please let me know. There might even be a finder’s fee in it for you!
