The time between semesters is a weird one in a college town. While there’s lots of activity around Christmas, it always feels a little off to me, since a good portion of the people I worship with every weekend head to other parts of the globe for a couple of weeks.
I had a chunk of unused vacation days left, so I took off the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. I spent the week hanging around the house, playing games with the fam, not doing church stuff. And shoveling snow. Lots of snow.
At some point in the staycation I caught that dreaded cold/all-over sore/nose-won’t-quit bug. It pounded me for a couple of days. I found out that cold medicine keeps me awake (2 nights without much sleep) and Nyquil clobbers me for about 24 hours.
Calvary cancelled the weekend worship gatherings on the last weekend of the year, opting to give staff and volunteers a weekend to rest, to worship with their families or life groups. I had a lot of ups over the break, but the Sunday morning that Team Sublett gathered around the table to pray and worship was definitely the sweetest. As we sang I felt the presence of Jesus in the room, and I believe that the Lord gave me some specific words for a couple of our children, allowed me to catch a glimpse of his love for us.
I could see us planting a church on Lenor Drive if that whole thing at the State Theatre doesn’t work out. We’ve already got a full house and a pretty good worship team…even if we show up for church in our jammies with bed-head!
