When you stop to think about it, it sort of makes sense that less than half of the juvenile members of Team Sublett have never been to sit on Santa’s lap, never whispered in the ear of the jolly old elf. Since most of them have only come to call us family in the last few years, that’s pretty understandable. This is Isaac’s 13th month, Charlie’s 16th. Josie’s been here 2 full years, and Annabelle came to us in January of 2010.
Oh wait–maybe you don’t do Santa with your kids. Before you pull the Jesus juke on me, Team Sublett does the Santa thing full on for as long as we can. Haters can hate, but Santa won’t be bringing you any presents…your choice.
Uncle Rocco and Aunt Beth thought that it would be a good idea for Team Sublett to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Corner Room (a Happy Valley landmark restaurant) and then grab some grub. Sadie missed out–she’s been sick for a week! But our waitress was named Sadie, so that’s pretty much the same thing (I kid). We love hanging out with Rocco and Beth, the food was great, and almost everybody loved meeting Santa. And it turns out that Charlie only tolerates Santa, while he LOVES Rocco. I have a confession: if you go to the Corner Room this week looking for Texas Pete, you might be out of luck. We passed a bottle around the table, each one of us shaking precious drops of the burny goodness into our pieholes, with Uncle Rocco and Josie knocking back multiple shots of the fire-juice. It was a sight to behold!
I love the fact that we’re creating some great memories, re-writing our kids’ definition of family, and building a new future for who knows how many people. Kim is great at the whole family memory thing, and I think I’m getting better.
And Rocco and Beth are getting lots of practice with the kids of Team Sublett. We’re a blessed family…
pics to follow, as something’s goofy with this thing tonight…
