Several months ago I wrote what I thought was a fairly witty blogpost about me being cast as Rev. Samuel Parris in the SCCT production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.  My wit were wasted on several of our friends (including the family who adopted Isaac’s buddy!) as they thought that I would choose to inform them via my blog of an impending vocational shift.

The show opens this week at The State Theatre, running Friday and Saturday July 19-20 and 26-27.  The evening shows are at 8pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.  Tickets are available through the State Theatre box office or online.

It’s not a light-hearted show; but it is a wonderful play (1953 Tony winner) that tackles some difficult issues.  It has prompted hours of deep discussion among our cast. Of course, it helps that one of our actors is a professor of bio-ethics at Penn State.  This has turned out to be a great show, and I would love to share it with you.

In other (and for realsies) news, my role at Calvary is shifting.  It’s been announced through all the various means that we have, so it’s safe for me to blog it.  I’m not leaving, but I am returning to the role that brought me and my then small family to Happy Valley.  After The Crucible closes I’ll reprise my role as the youth pastor for Calvary, and the worship pastor at midtown.  God has been stirring this up for several months, and the pieces finally fell into place for me a few weeks ago.  I have had the goofiest grin on my face for a while now.  Kim actually called the kids into the room to have them gawk at me.  “Children, come look…dad is happy!”

So if you have any questions about youth ministry, worship, or hanging witches, I be your man.
