We took the kids to see Miley Cyrus tonight. All 3 kids were excited. As a long-time and unashamed fan of Hannah Montana, I was pretty pumped about the concert myself.
It was a good show. Lots of creativity in set design, use of multiple screens, dancers. The sound was good, like it usually is at the Bryce Jordan Center. Miley said that she’s been sick again, which explains why she talked so little during the show, and could account for some of the pitch problems. I could hear Randy and Simon taking her to task (Yo dawg, it was a little pitchy in the middle…)
I had a few questions coming away from the concert:
1. Why do little girls squeal so loud at concerts? Seriously? Do they think that’s a good thing? I honestly thought I was going to go deaf from the squealing. I’m sure that dogs all over Centre County were howling.
2. Is there a good way to move from teeny-bop-princess to take-me-serious artist?
3. Does head-banging really fit “The Climb”?
We had a good time tonight overall. My girls stood the whole night and danced with their cousin Mackenzie. They sang almost all the songs and screamed at the appropriate times. They got to experience their first-ever encore (they thought it was over at the first Thank you, God bless you, goodnight!) I want to talk to them about the way Miley and the dancers dressed. We saw a promo for Miley’s new movie, which is based on a book by the same guy who wrote The Notebook. It was a fun night.
But most of all, as she was lowered through the stage trap door on her exit, I thought Miley looked tired. I know that she’s trying to leave the Hannah image behind. She’s living her dream, making tons of money, is super-famous, singing her songs…But I bet there are days when she’s tired of being Miley Cyrus, too.
