lots of good news

February 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Levi’s 7th grade guys small group is having a sleepover at the church tonight.  It started at the YMCA with a coupl of hours of rock climbing, swimming, and dodgeball.  Then it migrated back to the church–LOADS of sugar, cookies, Lynn Nold’s rice krispy treats, pop, and video games.  There were 16 7th grade guys, [...]

where I missed it today

February 27th, 2009 · No Comments

I came home from the office to find the entrance-hallway of our house rearranged.  Kim was deep in the recesses of Levi’s bedroom cleaning.  Furniture had been moved, and the vacuum cleaner was running full-tilt.
My immediate response should have been, “Wow, hon, the place looks great!  Thanks for cleaning.  What can I do to help?”
Instead, [...]

the voice of the Lord

February 26th, 2009 · No Comments

We’ve been in this series (WORD) for a few weeks now, and it has been good!  Lots of focus on the Word of God, hearing God’s voice…and the Life Journal reading plan has been totally synced up with the sermon series.  It’s uncanny, really, almost like there’s some higher power bringing it all into alignment.  [...]

the hardest part of leadership

February 25th, 2009 · No Comments

God’s been speaking to me a lot about leadership lately.  Passages in the Bible, snippets of conversation, his still small voice, other leaders…lots of stuff from lots of good sources.  I’ve had some remarkable moments of clarity in terms of leading youth, worship, the church, others…
But the hardest part of the whole shootin’ match (for [...]

Caleb says “let’s go”

February 24th, 2009 · No Comments

After a 40 day scouting party, the 12 spies return with the report:  The land is great, just like God promised.  But there are giants in the land.
Caleb says, “Let’s go at once to take the land.  We can certainly conquer it!”
The natural eye sees obstacles and opposition.  But when the Lord has given a [...]

friday good things

February 21st, 2009 · No Comments

Here are a few of the good things that I saw today:
*Dale Burke is in town to do some leadership training for Calvary.  He met with the staff today.  It felt like he’d been reading my journal, listening to conversations that I’ve been having with people all week.  That’s good–it means that we’re tracking with [...]

toward a new normal

February 20th, 2009 · No Comments

Sports make great analogies for life.  I’ve been a coach for some pretty successful teams in terms of wins and losses.  I’ve also coached some teams that struggled.  But it never fails–every year there were moments, golden opportunities when things more important than the final score bubbled to the surface.
Stephen Shields brought this one to [...]

The Wonders and the mother of invention

February 19th, 2009 · No Comments

What do you do when things aren’t going the way you think they ought to?  It might be in your marriage, your studies, your family, your job, your church, your ministry, your health…you get the picture, right?  No matter what it is, at times you and I will be face-to-face with unwanted results (or lack [...]

when to say when

February 18th, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve had a thought rumbling around in my head for a while now.  I’ve been reading the book of Acts as part of my daily time with God, and it’s captivating reading.  Tons of good God stuff all over the place.  The followers of Jesus get filled with the Spirit of God, start spreading the [...]

wealth, dave ramsey, and the pukes

February 17th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Kim bailed on the Financial Peace University class tonight.  It was the night we were supposed to have our first run at our budget ready.  I’m not saying that she got cold feet and chickened out.  She had the pukes.
Yep, we were planning to work on the budget today.  They say that most of the [...]
